Clinton has been locked up pending an investigation…
Yes that’s right – Clinton House Nursing Home in St Austell, Cornwall has been shut down following Health & Safety concerns!
The home, run by the Morleigh Group, had cared for 30 vulnerable adults. The group who ran six homes in Cornwall has confirmed three others are also under investigation.
Significant challenges
The company informed relatives that Clinton House faced significant challenges and therefore “the best option” had been to close it.
Indeed, Cornwall Council said it had made an “unusual and serious” decision to move residents over safeguarding issues.
The company says a new chief executive has been appointed to work with the authorities in transferring residents.
Health & Safety concerns were first raised about Clinton in 2013 by Christine Stewart, whose 85-year-old mother lived at the home.
Even though Ms. Stewart knew Clinton was under investigation, she says she was still shocked at how quickly the authorities have moved.
Ms. Stewart said “I am saddened but not surprised that the problems have been allowed to get serious enough to force the complete closure of the home.”
Action group
An action group involving the council, NHS Kernow Clinical Commissioning Group, Devon and Cornwall Police, NHS England and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) was set up after concerns were again raised by a relative last month.
The police confirmed no arrests have been made. The CQC say the findings of its inspections of the four homes will be reported “in due course”.
